History
This faculty and staff book group began in 2005 as a SEED (Seeking Educational Equity & Diversity) group. The SEED project on inclusive curriculum was created more than two decades ago at Wellesley College. After attending its training program in 2005, a Pike teacher established a SEED group for Pike faculty and staff. For a comprehensive explanation of the national SEED program by its founders, Emily Styles and Peggy McIntosh, visit this link to the Wellesley site.
For four years, SEED met once a month during the school year to discuss a wide range of books and movies, each focusing on a particular theme. SEED members were able to reflect upon their own reactions to issues of diversity and to then carry that knowledge into the classroom.
In 2009, the group was renamed PikePOD (People in Open Dialogue) and continues as a way for faculty and staff to explore and understand diversity in its broadest definition.
